Frequently Asked Questions

Use the information below to answer any questions you may have:

Is tuition right for my child?

Making the decision to hire a tutor is a very important decision. Tuition can improve grades dramatically if they are the right fit and have the experience to ensure your child succeeds. If your child is continually underperforming in school, it may be wise to employ a tutor to plug this gap. Tuition is always based on what you and your child wants – look for a tutor that gives you flexibility and great communication.

How do I know I am getting good value?

All tutors will price their time differently. It is important to see their experience and what they offer your child. You can ask for an initial session for free or a reduced amount to see what the tutor offers and how each lesson is planned and designed. You should pay what you feel comfortable paying with the understanding of what you see as value. Make sure you look at years taught, experience in the classroom and working with an exam board.

Ask yourself the question – “If my child achieves a grade X, is the cost worth it?”

What should I look for in a tutor?

Communication and progress reports are important, however, it is how your child feels in a lesson. Is the tutor producing adapted lessons for them or do they feel like one of many? Are they distracted or not meeting the needs of your child? Remember, you are paying them for the service and there should be trust they are trying their best for your child.

Ask your child what they have learned and monitor assessments in school to see improvements.

Should I choose group or one-to-one sessions?

This is a question we get asked a lot. It is important to consider price points and how much progress your child will make in both. There is no concrete data which shows the difference between the two, however, both options should see progress from the child. Ask to see a lesson from a group session to see how each child is receiving feedback either in the session or afterwards to ensure progression.

Remember, tutors should feel comfortable discussing these issues with you.

At the Learning Experts, we aim to work with you to provide the best possible service.
